700 years ago, a young girl died either by her own hand or by execution, according to a BBC news story today (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7943831.stm) and was subsequently buried in an unmarked grave on non-consecrated land. In an act of charity - albeit several centuries late - she was today finally given the Christian burial she deserved at Hoo St Werberg Parish Church.
Well done Revd Harding (vicar at Hoo) for recognising that every individual is precious before God and for allowing this poor child to be buried within the boundaries of sacred ground. And well done too to the 200 or more people who attended the committal. It's heartening to know that there are good people out there who care even for the soul of someone who died seven centuries ago. May God bless them all.
Eternal rest grant unto 'Holly' oh Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May her sins be forgiven and may she rest in peace.
